Time of trial
At first glance, it seems like
a natural situation. After a moment, however, we notice its
perversity: a giraffe is trudging through a dense swamp, a swan is
stuck in the desert sands, and a camel is wading through the waters
of a vast lake, helplessly searching for a point of reference. The
animals find themselves in an unnatural environment, one to which
they are not adapted. They are put to the test of survival,
endurance, and their normal functioning is disrupted.
Evolution
has put thousands of species to the test. Some have adapted, others
have failed. It is said that the shape of a bird's wing reflects the
shape of a wind wave, a horse's hoof reflects the shape of the
ground, and a fish's fin reflects the shape of water. Reversing these
relationships, one might ask: how will a sense of passivity, panic,
and overwhelming confusion be reflected in us? Will we be able to
meet the challenge?
